PandaSay a programmer in Russia is trying to make some money. He would identify a popular search in a specific geographical target group. For instance “Day Spas in Simsbury CT”. He would then create a website with a listing of the day spas and related businesses in that area with some basic information. Additional space on the site would be used for selling ads and links. When a consumer then searches for a day spa in Simsbury CT his site would be sorted first. The more clicks he gets the higher it would rank. Other programmers would follow in his steps and eventually internet searches would list all unrelated information on the first page and the actual day spas would be listed on page 2-3.

Why we needed it |
Google Panda was released by Google in February 2011, named after Naveet Panda, who developed it. This was created at a time when many users were trying to use the internet to make money online, selling ads or using social media with low quality and unrelated sites.

A Fair Chance |
Panda algorithm gave a chance to the small business owner, making Google ratings an accessible and an achievable goal. It pushed down sites who were low quality with spam and advertisements. New content made a huge difference meaning that by just updating your blog regularly it would push your site to the top. Writing your own words also made a big difference. Advertising companies trying to serve one industry with the same content and businesses selling content for blogs/newsletters being used by many over and over actually got your site penalized. Your own unique repetition of characters in words were being awarded giving you a chance to even stand out above big boxes and chains!

On my Website |
Panda has had a few updates and tweaks since then, especially focusing on the consumer and the kind of experience they get when they visit your site. Easy and condensed website menus and clear to understand and sort through content is part of Panda. Mobile site and quick loading speeds are also part of Panda.
Thanks to Panda, honorable and hardworking business owners have a fair and doable chance to compete with corporate giants. |
