The quality and strength of the internet building blocks that you use to build your business internet presence, is imperative to its success or failure. The building blocks of the internet are what I refer to as relevancy factors. These are found all over and depending on whether you use them or not would determine whether you rank high or low. You need to use them to build your Website Vehicle for it to 'work'. A functioning vehicle can be determined by doing a quick self-evaluation using Hubspot's Free Marketing Grader.
Building Blocks
The internet is like a trashcan that keeps filling up. We see this every day in our Facebook newsfeed as it fills up and up and up... Trying to find a posting from 2 years ago is like trying to spoon out some dirt from the dinosaur age. Using this principle we can see that new content is a crucial part of being important. New content can be a posting on social media, a new blog or a recycled old blog. Developers used to solve this problem by redoing your website every other year so that it is fresh, new and relative. Today we solve it by regular updates. This is a big problem if you do not have access to your website, if you do not have a blog and if your website builder is too difficult to navigate. The ONLY website platform that I work on is Weebly. This is the easiest builder with the smallest learning curve. It has the ability to add an embedded blog that is part of the website that does not need advanced programming skills.
Your blog will give you a place to talk about local happenings, community news and trending topics. These will be picked up by Venice Algorithm and help give you better Organic Search. Link-building in blogs will increase you Moz Ranking using Penguin. Including #tags, @tags and +tags will help with viral marketing, social search and social selling.

Words and Sentences
Words and sentences is what the internet uses to spit things out. We can see this in your website analytics as Organic Search. We have backend parts that go into the settings of your website called a Meta-Description and Meta-Keywords. These can be seen in a basic Google search displayed in the short extract of words under your domain in green when sorted.
We also have front end words and sentences that can be seen on your website pages. Having detailed pages explaining what it is that you do and breaking it up in many words is what can be seen as the corner stones of your website or your cornerstone content. If you do not have actual physical words to read on your website pages it is very unlikely that your website will be sorted in online searches. Take a detailed look at your Organic search in your analytics to see what your website is sorted on. Determine what words you would like to be sorted on and find a way to incorporate them in words that makes sense on your pages. Keep in mind that your words have to make sense and better yet needs to be in spoken phrases to help Hummingbird. Forced keyword stuffing will make sentences hard to understand and looks like webspam picked up by Penguin. Add a name and location with posted reviews to utilize Venice. Strengthen them with Penguin by linking back to the original site where posted. |
Brand It
Out of all the building blocks this one is mostly to do with your traditional outbound marketing. Instead of picking up leads when they are searching, people already know who you are and go straight to your website. These kind of leads can be seen in your analytics under Direct Traffic. So spreading your marketing budget is crucial to make sure you get traffic from many different sources. Branding your social media can also have a big impact on being recognized. When a conversation in a Social Media group leads to a loyal customer referring you, they often leave a link to your website. When people click on this typed in link it is measured as direct traffic or what we call Dark Social Media traffic.
You do not have to be a designer to brand your business. I use Google Drawings to create all my visual parts and have templates to help you get your Outbound Marketing on track. |
Backlinks
Backlinks are what I would call the fiber that the internet is built on. Many companies abuse the power in backlinks so Google Penguin was created to pick up on them. Linkbuilding is the only way to really put weight and credibility to your site. Link-building in blogs will increase your Moz Ranking using Penguin. Including #tags, @tags and +tags will help with viral marketing, social search and social selling and help Venice (Pigeon) to sort you in local searches.

Power of Many
Many small businesses only use the power of many as their presence online. I still remember the day when Matt Cuts said that Google will be starting to sort Facebook results. We never really thought is possible but when many stand together they are able to create something that is relative and not even Google is able to deny its ratings.
Our local Chambers are the first example of a power of many that got lost in translation online. Manta, Merchant Circle and review sites like Yelp filled the gap. Patch was really the only site that really showed us how to do it with Patch.com/Granby, Patch.com/Suffield etc. Many corporate giants use this principle with subpages off their main domain for re-sellers. The power of many is rooted in Penguin but as Pigeon (Venice) with Knowledge Graphs we will really see it shape the future of media. |
