Social Media ALWAYS Changing

When I started with this Social Media journey I advised many of my clients to get their own copies of Facebook for Dummies…. Since then Facebook has updated about 5 times, which today was another!

For me this means A LOT OF WORK going back to Tutorials and changing screenshots so that I don’t confuse all of you! Change is sometimes very hard to deal with and I think it is important to understand that it a necessary part of development.  As new as Social Media is it is also constantly updating and changing. Yes it is uncomfortable and yes it is inconvenient but somehow the constant change of social media helps us to evolve, to expect and adapt, giving us the tools we need to survive!
In dealing with this constant Social Media updating and change it is important to understand our human reaction to change.

DENIAL
When I went through my first Facebook update. I kept on thinking it would go away. While in DENIAL I thought that maybe too many people would complain, then forcing Facebook to come to their senses change back so that everything could be as it was. I thought, maybe if I ignored it, it would go away…

ANGER
When it did not go away I got ANGRY! I started to spend my time reading angry posts and online blogs about exactly how angry we were all at Facebook! I had to blow off some steam while dealing with being pulled out of comfort zone in such an intrusive way!

MOURN
When the anger subsided I kept on thinking back about to how it used to be, the old look. I tried to map the changes to evaluate its effects, good or bad.

ACCEPT
I think before one can adapt it is important to make peace with the fact and to understand why it is happening.

ADAPT
Until, I finally decided to just jump in head first and ADAPT!
I found a blog on how to dig into the developers' code and changed my Profile to the NEW test-timeline profile and updated!  4 months later, my friends still look the same so….
Expect More Change Soon!
